How to Implement Organic SEO for your Drop Ship Business

Implementing organic search engine optimization (SEO) enables your website to earn top rankings at all major search engines. Top page rankings increase your visibility and web presence leading to greater reach and increased sales.

Implement the following SEO techniques to create organic, lasting optimization:


Page Size and User-Friendliness

It all begins with your web pages. Pages should be coded in a user-friendly manner with page size in mind. The smaller the byte size, the faster pages will load.

Decrease page size...

  • eliminate all unnecessary code including carriage returns
  • minimize the number of characters used per page
  • minimize the number of images used
  • use small images with links to larger ones
  • use banners with the smallest byte size available

Tight code is important, but so are user-friendly web pages. Create web pages that are easy to use and aesthetically-pleasing.

Increase user-friendliness...

  • name all images with relevant keywords
  • use ALT, width, and height attributes for all images
  • use heading, bold, and italic tags properly
  • use author meta tags
  • use description meta tags efficiently
  • use descriptive, relevant page titles
  • use the title attribute on all links


Validation

Check to see if your web page elements meet W3C standards. Eliminate coding errors to increase page load time, and to ensure that pages render correctly.

You can find many free validation applications online, but I recommend going straight to the source of standards to ensure proper validation. The W3C offers several validation services to meet all your validating needs.

Keywords

Brainstorm a list of keywords related to your website theme. Try visiting other sites with a similar theme, if you get stuck. You can also use keyword suggestion tool to grow your list. Google has a free one at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal.

Choose several of these keywords to use throughout your website. Use each of the keywords repeatedly on each page, but not more than 5% of density. You can check your keyword density with a free analyzer at http://www.submitexpress.com/analyzer/. Redundant keyword use, over 5% density, can actually penalize your page rankings.

In addition to individual keywords, choose a keyword phrase that is well-suited to your website theme. You will use this keyword phrase a few times per page. Your keyword phrase should be 2 or 3 words long. Think of phrases that customer might type into Google to look for the products or services that you sell. Keyword phrases enable your website to appear in more search results.


Backlinks

Backlinks, also known as inbound links, are links from another website to your site. Backlinks are an integral part of search engine optimization. You want as many backlinks as possible, and you need to continue adding more every week.

All backlinks are not created equal. Links coming from high ranking sites are more valuable than ones from low ranking sites. Relevant backlinks are also more valuable than random ones.

You can obtain backlinks by posting on blogs, social networking channels, and forums, participating in a link exchange, and by posting articles in article directories. You can also buy backlinks, but check the reputation of the directory first.

Use your keyword phrase to title one out of three backlinks. Use similar keyword phrases to name the rest of the links.

Check your links on a regular basis to update or remove broken links. You can check your links quickly with the W3C Link Checker at http://validator.w3.org/checklink.


Content

Create fresh content for your website on a regular basis. The more often you add new content, the better; however, at least once a week seems to be sufficient.

The most important features of content are originality and relevance. Most major search engines penalize for repeated content. Off the wall, random content doesn’t help your website; instead, add unique, helpful material that benefits your target audience.

Not sure what to add? Try adding a blog to your website. Blog posts can be as long or short as you want. They attract visitors, boost your brand image, and can provide helpful, informative, or entertaining content. Blogs also enable you to connect with your customers and build trust.


Site Maps

You need two types of site maps. Add one for your visitors, so they can find their way around your website. Submit an XML site map to Google, so that every page of your website is indexed. Oftentimes, crawlers only search the first couple levels of links, leaving deep-linked pages out of search results.
